Getting around the Isle of Coll There is no public transport on Coll so travelling around is limited. If you don't have your own transport then you can walk or hire a bike from several places in the village (Arinagour). Many of the locals will offer you a lift, even if you prefer not to! Cycling is popular, there being no huge hills, and the experience can be very pleasant but beware that the wind can be equally taxing when it does blow. Using a bicycle means you can take a circular route around the west end of Coll making use of the sandy track that goes to Hough Bay, a track closed to vehicles. If you bring your own bike, don't forget that bikes travel free on CalMac ferries when you buy a Rover ticket, a Hopscotch ticket or a book of 6 tickets. Otherwise there is a small charge. For the more adventureous, a wonderful way to see the coast is a circular sea kayak trip. There are many little islands to explore off Coll and a wealth of wildlife to discover. CalMac ferries will bring your kayak over to Coll - and how about going back to Oban on the ferry from Tiree. |
